Thoko, a single mother of three children, struggles to make ends meet. Despite running a small usipa business, she finds it difficult to afford basic necessities and is unable to send her twin sons (3) to nursery school. Her eldest daughter, Chikondi (13) who she had at the young age of 15, is an exceptionally bright student. Recently, Chikondi was accepted to Rumphi Secondary School, a prestigious institution. However, Thoko is unable to cover the K220,000 school fees.Girls Evolve believes in the power of education for girls and is committed to supporting Chikondi's journey. As part of our mission, we will sponsor her school fees from Form One to Form Four. In addition to financial assistance, we have also provided Chikondi with a suitcase to help her transition to secondary school.

Or do schools that charge more for tuition just grow larger? Honestly, we have seen it happen both ways. One thing is sure – once tuition levels have been established, raising them is scary and challenging.

How to apply for grants We know that teachers and teaching assistants are busy people, committed to delivering quality education and increasingly extracurricular enrichment activities. While some extra cash might help to make these extracurricular projects easier to run and manage, finding the time to apply for grants is often down at the bottom of your ever-growing to do list. But Class People Foundation have made it quick and easy to apply for a grant to support your extracurricular events, whether you are raising money for library books or football shirts for your school team. Get the information together before you startYou will know your school’s name and address but what about the most relevant email address to apply with, for example? By ensuring you have all this information gathered together before you apply, it will streamline the process and take up less of your valuable time. Be as specific as possibleRather than asking for money to support your library, try asking for money to buy 100 books for Key Stage 2 readers, for example. It is much more impactful, and you are much more likely to be successful by having an accurate and targeted plan. It also forces you to think about what you actually need and work towards it rather than having a vague idea and no way to carry it out. Keep a digital copy of your applicationWe all think we will remember exactly what we typed into a form but having a Word document with the information in makes applying for other grants quicker and gives you a really good starting point for tailoring your application. Each grant process will have a slightly different way of doing things, but a lot of the questions will be similar. When you’re time- poor, little tips and tricks like this can make your life much easier!Find out more about the Class People Foundation and apply for a grant. https://lnkd.in/eVDwfsVi

Is the writing on the wall for young carers? MYTIME Young Carers have published a report on the educational attainment of primary school age #youngcarers on how they perform in maths, writing and reading. When compared to their peers without a caring responsibility, young carers aged 5-11 perform significantly below age-related expectations in maths, reading and writing at primary school.📣 Only 51% of young carers reach age related expectations in reading, in comparison to 70% of their peers without a caring responsibility. 📣 Only 39% of young carers reach age related expectations in writing, in comparison to 63% of their peers without a caring responsibility. 📣 Only 49% of young carers reach age related expectations in maths, in comparison to 73% of their peers without a caring responsibility. Through our research, we know that only 10% of young people who do not reach their expected reading age by the time they leave school, will go on to pass their GCSE’s in English and Maths. This can have long reaching impacts on so many areas of their lives, including their physical health, mental health and future earning potential. It is vital that all schools are equip with the knowledge and tools to be able to identify young carers. This would allow them to develop appropriate interventions to ensure young carers achieve what they are capable of. MYTIME's vision is also that every school has access to this kind of support, so that young carers are no longer a hidden group of young people and that they are seen by their teachers and schools. It is through creating awareness and understanding that we are compelled to act. MYTIME is putting together a round table to discuss the findings of this report and to explore effective strategies for addressing these issues. To be part of this round table please comment below and we will forward an invite.Read more on our report here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewbHd5Ek #MYTIME #YoungCarers #Charity #UnseenSacrifices #Report

The right to education is a basic human right that every child deserves. Unfortunately, this right is not easily granted, and barriers such as poverty, inequality, and systemic flaws prevent many from accessing it. While the government and policymakers are striving to improve public education, we as part of the civil society are also doing our best to tackle this societal issue. To make a difference, we need your help. Let’s join hands in making 2024 a year of impact by donating to support the education of children from low-income families. Together, we'll build the foundation for a brighter future by investing in the education of today's young minds.https://lnkd.in/d9S84qNe#crowdfunding #donations #makeadifference #makeanimpact #educationforall #educationmatters #childrensrights Radha Goenka Yogesh Waghchoure Ashmita M. This important new MYTIME Young Carers report based on educational outcomes for young carers across 7 primary schools in Dorset shows why it's so vital this data is being examined at a national level and that all schools/multi-academy trusts are looking at it routinely for their young carers. It also shows what is possible when schools are routinely recording which pupils are young carers. It is also further clear evidence for why identifying/supporting young carers in education must be a priority within a wide range of education policy areas and for all political parties. This is something Carers Trust will be continuing to work with Young Carers Alliance members to and others to push for in the run-up to the general election and beyond.Krista Cartlidge Helen Leadbitter Saul Becker The Children's Society Rohati Chapman Vicky Morgan Lisa Witherden Department for Education Dame Rachel de Souza
