When we asked families what would improve their care, they asked for better continuity, care coordination, and communication. This is what I aim to provide by supporting and advocating for them during these long stays, and addressing psychological, social and medical concerns. Q: Tell us about a typical dayA: My role is incredibly varied and depends on the needs of each individual patient and their family. It can range from helping set up a bank account to helping manage an acutely deteriorating child needing intensive care. It often involves spending time with families, ward rounds, attending multidisciplinary meetings and teaching peers or parents.
